Though the protagonists are natural philosophers, rather than the variety who sit in armchairs thinking for a living, it certainly isn't clear who will be inconvenienced by the "resignation of administrative duties" of the heads of many of France's government research laboratories. However, these honoured descendants of Vroomfondel and Majikthise are clearly very annoyed.
