Radovan Karadzic, the Bosnian Serb wartime leader, was arrested in Belgrade. He is likely to be sent to The Hague war-crimes tribunal and tried on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity; he was indicted 13 years ago. The arrest was widely welcomed, and celebrated in Sarajevo, the Bosnian capital; Serb nationalists protested. The European Union promised to step up its co-operation with Serbia.
