America and China may yet find a civi-lised way to settle their differences over the yuan (see previous article) but there are plenty of other sources of friction between the world's largest economy and its most dynamic one. American accusations about Chinese mercantilism are met by Chinese finger-pointing about America's "Buy America" legislation. Since 2008 each has dragged the other to the wto thrice. Both America and China, it seems, are convinced that the other is retreating from free trade.
