AFTER Amanda Knox, an American stu-dent, had her appeal against a 26-year sentence for murder upheld on October 3rd, she returned to the jail near Perugia where she had spent almost four years to collect her belongings. With her was Rocco Girlanda, a local deputy and one of her most influential Italian supporters.
