At the signing of the Civil Rights Actin 1964,115 of the 128 members of Congress from the former Confederate states were white Democrats. But their decline has been rapid, as our videographic shows. By 2010 those states were sending just 37 Democrats to Congress, 16 of them white This week we launch a blog providing reporting and analysis on defence, security, diplomacy, weapons, spooks and cyber-attacks.
