The grave digger's victory

Serbia has a new president. In a run-off poll on May 20th Serbs elected Tomislav Nikolic, who was running for the presidency for the third time. He is sometimes known as "The Gravedigger" because he once ran municipal cemeteries. Mr Nikolic's election has electrified the country's political elite. Until his defeat of the incumbent Boris Tadic, Serbia's political future seemed clear.
