Atlunchtime on November 4th thou-sands of people emptied onto the streets of Bangkok's business district armed with whistles, placards and apparently inexhaustible supplies of anger. Swiftly bringing Silom Road to a standstill, they were there to protest against an amnesty bill that the government of Yingluck Shinawatra had passed at the dead of night in the lower house of parliament three days earlier.
