The government has continued to come in for heavy criticism for the state of the public finances in the period since the Budget. The latest data from the ONS showed Public Sector Net Borrowing (PSNB) of ￡19.9bn in May, which was the highest single month deficit since records began in 1993 and some ￡9.3bn higher than the equivalent month of last year.
