摘要

This book tries to explain three aspects of the global economy since 1980: the eurozone's very poor economic performance, the prolonged economic slowdown between 1980 and 2000 in most of the world's low- and middle-income countries, and the substantial reduction in poverty in Latin American countries in the twenty-first century after more than two decades without any progress. Mark Weisbrot, Co-Director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington, DC, believes that behind almost every prolonged economic malfeasance there is some combination of outworn bad ideas, incompetence, and the malign influence of powerful special interests. His gold medal for the main villain goes to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with the European Commission and the European Central Bank (ECB) joint winners of a silver medal.
