MARGARET THATCHER: THE AUTHORIZED BIOGRAPHY. VOLUME THREE: HERSELF ALONE

After 23 years and nearly 3,000 pages delving into all 87 years of Margaret Thatcher's life, the final volume of Charles Moore's biography charts the course of her third term in office, from 1987 to 1990, and the years after Downing Street. The first of Moore's volumes was reviewed for Economic Affairs by John Blundell, the Institute of Economic Affairs' former Director General, who knew her personally and was ideologically aligned from the start. The current Editor of this journal reviewed the second volume: having not subscribed to much of her radical world view at the time she was first in office, he had become convinced of its importance as time went on. As for me, I am a generation removed from her premiership, but I know that Thatcher inspired and enabled my father to set up his own business, as many of his contemporaries did; this initially set me on my journey to belief in the fundamental principles of Thatcherism.
