Classifying ecological communities and synthesizing data for natural resource management: Some problems and potential solutions

Adopting an 'ecosystem' approach (Shepherd 2004) in addressing biodiversity conservation and natural resource management can be influenced by: 1 Classification, mapping and description of 'ecological communities' that are used to underpin decisions in landscape planning and management; and 2 Organization of often disparate ecological data so that it can be accessed by researchers and natural resource managers.
