Engineers who design electronics for mission-critical systems for today's military aerospace and defense markets are facing unprecedented demand from their customers to pack more and more capability into smaller and smaller boxes. Another challenge, particularly since the war on terror commenced, is the accelerated development and delivery pressure the military is applying to suppliers to produce finished working units in much less time than was necessary in the past. Fifteen years ago, typical new product development cycles in the mil/aero markets were 15 to 18 months.
