Slight improvement, but fragility persists

The month witnessed a slight improvement in the Drewry All-Earnings Index, which edged up by 8.6% to 173 points. While the dry bulk sector noted sizable gains in rates on account of higher coal and iron ore imports from China, the oil tanker, LPG and chemical tanker markets witnessed an overall decline in rates as tonnage supply continued to outweigh demand.
