While MPV demand is expected to remain strong in January, especially in the shortsea sectors, several headwinds in the form of port congestion, restrictions due to a surge in Omicron cases and tight vessel availability will limit the rise in charter rates. The market in December was below par due to the end of year holidays; however, enough momentum was created in the first half of the month to keep rates on their upward trajectory.
