Drewry’s Chemical Freight Index declined 2.1% on long-haul routesand 2.9% on short-haul routes in March 2020. The Vegoil FreightIndex also dropped another 1.4% in March due to weak demand fromChina and India on the account of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.We expect trade volume and freight rates to drop further on almost all majortrade routes as the supply chain disruption and lockdowns have gone globalnow. However, while China’s demand for vegoil is likely to pick up fromApril as the impact of the virus has faded in the country, India’s demandfor vegoil is dampened due to the lockdown imposed by the government.
