Coastal channels that serve internal navigation, along with ports' inner harbour basins, were the province of the port authorities - Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Zeeland Seaports for example. The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment's responsible for dredging the main North Sea access channels and the fairways that are part of the main national navigation network, although the actual management lies with the North Sea, North-Holland, South-Holland and Zeeland regional directorates of Rijkswaterstaat (part of the infrastructure and environment ministry and responsible for design, construction, management and maintenance of the Netherlands' main infrastructure facilities).
