Pyeongtaek-Dangjin terminal to proceed

Construction of a new passenger and cargo terminal in South Korea's twin Pyeongtaek-Dangjin port will begin in the first half of 2016, despite the ripple effects of the region's MERS outbreak, Zeng Xiaolin reports. A KRW71.5 billion (USD61.5 million) terminal is expected to be completed by 2020 at Pyeongtaek-Dangjin. The twin port is South Korea's closest to China, so it is responding to growing trade and passenger arrivals from its huge neighbour. The port's current passenger terminal has been receiving passengers from the Chinese ports of Fangcheng, Yantai, Rizhao, Lianyungang, and Weihai. But its coastal facilities, especially the three berths for passenger ships, have inadequate capacity.
