We think of buildings as consisting in a relationship between two "somethings". The design work is all about bringing this relationship to the surface.rnThis was our first project in a so-calledrnflagpole site, a situation typical of Tokyo where the plot is inserted within the city block. Since the site is very closely surrounded by buildings on all sides, we could not expect to have any scenery or relation between inside and outside.rnAt first we studied the concept of distance on various levels: the distance between inside and outside, between residencernand atelier, and between Leisure and work.
