ITALIAN ARCHITECTS ABROAD

It is nothing new for Italian architecture students to cross the border to study and spend a year abroad under the Erasmus programme. Illustrious predecessors of this migratory flow include Giacomo Quarenghi in Saint Petersburg and Lina Bo Bardi in Brazil. The "Erasmus Effect" exhibition, curated by Pippo Ciorra at Rome's MAXXI (5.12.2013-6.6.2014), focuses on the acceleration of this phenomenon in recent decades by examining the work of established international professionals and the stories of young Italians abroad. It highlights some of the effects of this trend, such as the formation of a dense network of transnational collaborations.
