Today it became obvious that amantadine and rimantadine, inhibitors of the function of the M2 protein of influenza A virus, actually stopped to be specific medicines for the treatment of influenza A. Over 80% of modern isolates of influenza A virus became resistant to rimantadine and amantadine, because the substitution S31N, as well as substitutions A30V and V27A, occurred in their genome (M2 protein gene).
