Alliant Will Not Rebuild Iowa Plant

As reported Jan. 7 in The Gazette, Alliant Energy has announced that it will not rebuild its flood-damaged Sixth Street Generating Station in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, because too few of its large steam customers agreed to sign contracts that would require them to cover the costs of operating the plant from the point of bringing it back online. The eight large customers affected by the closing are Cargill Corp., Coe College, International Paper, Mercy Medical Center, Ralston Foods, St. Luke's Hospital, SunOpta and Quaker.
