UNC Chapel Hill Digs Deep: IDEA'S 22nd Annual Campus Energy Conference

The numbers are impressive. More than 430 district energy professionals, including 58 new IDEA members, gathered from North America and Europe in Durham, N.C., Feb. 9-13, 2009, to participate in the 22nd Annual IDEA Campus Energy Conference. Despite the challenging economic climate and travel restrictions, the event - "Today's Solution for Tomorrow's Climate Changes" - surpassed expectations. In addition, two preconference workshops were solidly booked with a total of more than 140 participants. The Distribution Workshop focused on safety and system reliability and the Sustainability Workshop explored such topics as managing campus efficiency and reducing carbon footprints. The conference was graciously hosted by Raymond DuBose, PE, director of energy services at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. By turning out 36 of their own energy staff, DuBose and UNC Vice Chancellor for Campus Activities Carolyn Elfland set a new precedent for attendance from one member organization at an IDEA event.
