China - The District Energy Frontier

What does a country with 1.3 billion people, a 10 percent annual electricity demand growth rate and a goal to produce 20 percent of its power from renewables by 2020 need? The answer, of course, is district energy. While we watch the stock market bounce up and down here in the United States and complain about a Congress locked in stalemate, Chinese companies continue to grow and increase investments in clean energy at a level that represents about 20 percent of the total amount spent worldwide. Nationwide, China's construction programs seek to increase living standards through the development and construction of new towns and residential housing. China has the unique opportunity to develop an energy infrastructure that embraces multiple energy sources and ensures a sustainable energy future.
