IDEA'S Sixth International District Cooling Conference, titled "Cleaner Energy, Greener Cities," took place Dec. 14-16 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and chairman and chief executive officer of Emirates Airline and Group. The conference, hosted by Empower Energy Solutions, concluded with recognition of eight district cooling providers that are significantly reducing the regional carbon footprint and with a tour of state-of-the-art Empower district cooling plants. The conference focused on how major district cooling systems operate more efficiently than in-building systems and conserve both electricity and water. The program also stressed the importance of optimizing chilled-water systems and achieving efficient, optimized district load and storage distribution.
