As you woo workers, don't forget importance of frontline supervisors

If you aim to improve worker relations in 2015, don't forget your most important surrogate: frontline supervisors. These managers are your eyes, ears, and voice in the DC, communicating your vision and priorities to pickers, packers, and operators. But it's all too easy to take them for granted, says Tom Tanel of CATTAN Services Group. "Most DCs, in my opinion, do not fully appreciate the importance of first-line supervisors," Tanel says. "It has been my experience that DCs that have experienced and well trained first-line supervisors have few internal and external problems, and the morale is higher, which leads to a more desirable workplace."
