I've been crying from the computer tops for years now, but I think I'm finally being heard. The shooter's role as a professional image creator has expanded dramatically—far beyond the traditional and familiar world of cameras, lenses, tripods, and videocassettes. To survive and prosper in today's highly converged world, the shooter must embrace an ever-widening palette of tools to maintain control of his images. In this strange new land dominated by a handful of compositing players, we can add diffusion to our images, compensate for hue shifts, reduce depth of field, and even add follow focus to a scene that demands it. Compositing tools are now a natural extension of the shooter's craft, and the revolutionary Apple Motion might be the ultimate expression of this notion.
