Richard Sterry MIDiagE writes that one particularly interesting type of fault that a service engineer might have to deal with is the one that only occurs at a particular time of day. My first encounter with a fault of this nature was in a hospital pathology lab. The customer had a continuous flow clinical chemistry analyser for human blood samples. The primary output was via a chart recorder, but this particular analyser was coupled to a small(ish) industrial microcomputer that enabled proper patient result forms to be printed out and sent to clinicians.
