摘要

Children — their needs, rights, well-being and contribution to society — belong at the very centre of development if the world is to evolve into a more peaceful, productive and equitable place. This simple truth informs the work UNICEF has performed in its first fifty years of existence and it will guide the organization through the next fifty years. But this truth is easily obscured by the neglect, exploitation, deprivation, violence and hatred afflicting millions of children today from the slums of Haiti to the Balkan battlefields, from the sweatshops of South Asia to the inner cities of the industrialized world.
