Korean water companies reposition to take advantage of national semiconductor boom

Water companies in South Korea are repositioning their portfolios and strategies to tap into the ultrapure water (UPW) market, in a bid to capitalise on growing opportunities as the country looks to boost domestic microelectronics production. Last month, the Ministry of Environment, state run water agency K-water, and a group of domestic companies kicked off a five-year UPW localisation project, with the goal of expanding local companies' limited reach in the market, and helping the country become self-sufficient in UPW technologies to cut overseas risk amid rising trade tensions between Japan and Korea.
