Forest resources are an important foundation in our modern development. Its effective management is of strategic significance for maintaining the safety of the country's ecological environment and thehealthy development of the economy. The current forest management system mainly relies on the GPS system of the United States. Technology monopoly lack of precision, and inability to communicate inreal time cannot meet the management needs in for-est management and protection in China. Therefore, this paper develops a forest management and protec- tion system based on the Beidou Satellite Navigation System (BDS), analyzes the system's design process. system composition, main functions, and calculation method of inspection area. Through the receiving and sending tests at the field test site, the complete- ness of message communication information has reached more than 99%, which proves the reliability of the short message communication of the forest pa-trol system studied. Through on-site positioning ac- curacy experiments, the positioning accuracy of thehandheld terminal of the forest patrol system based on Beidou navigation reaches 98.95%, reaching the same high accuracy as GPS. Through two area sur- veying and mapping experiments, the accuracy of the system surveying area experiment is 99.79% and 99.77%, respectively, which meets the needs of for- est surveying and mapping engineering. The forest based on Beidou navigation system designed in this paper can effectively reduce the cost of management and protection and improve the safety of forest envi- ronment management and protection.
