Improving the Intellectual and Social Development of Children with Autism: Design of a Training Center for Autism

There has recently been done research between architecture and psychology for autism children in the world, which suggests that proper environments for these children can have a significant impact on their health process. On the other hand, statistics show that autism spectrum disorders are pervasive, and this spread in Iran has been increasing. However, autism centers that are specifically designed for these children are very limited, and available paradigms are made without considering the mood of these children. Considering the role of architecture in designing a suitable space for these children, an investigation that can identify the specific requirements of these children from the architectural perspective seems necessary. The purpose of this paper is to design the training center for autistic children under the age of five, most of the spaces considered in the physical program have been designed to be flexible and capable of converting to age 5-14. Taking into account the qualitative criteria in the design of the center, it tries to build a sense of security and attachment, and it can be a place for the development and evolution of the educational aspect and improvement of the social relations of these children.
