Tensor fasciae lata transfer flap for repair of advanced penile cancer after groin dissection: A case series

In the West, penile cancer is uncommon, accounting for less than 1% of all malignancies in men. 1 Patients with penile cancer often achieve good outcomes with appropriate treatment, but pa- tients with inguinal lymph node metastasis have a significantly poor prognosis, with 5-year overall survival (OS) of 65e70% and 0e20% of inguinal and pelvic lymph node involvement, respec- tively. 2,3 Advanced cancer and currently available treatments are devastating to the patient's body and heart, resulting in poor qual- ity of life. Inguinal lymph node surgery itself has an unacceptable incidence of complications, such as necrosis of the skin flap, lymphatic fistula, and incision infection. Due to the large inguinal metastases of advanced cancer, whichmaybe accompaniedbylocal skin ulceration and infection, surgical treatment is difficult to carry out, and the effect of palliative neoadjuvant therapy is uncertain. Such patients often lose the treatment opportunity in the process of hesitation in different treatment methods, travel from medical institution to medical institution and further progress. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of surgical treatment for advanced penile cancer with inguinal metastases and to provide an alternative treatment for such patients (see Figs. 1e3).
