CoJ secures a first-ever complete Cycle Design Manual to improve lives and promote sustainable transport

The City of Johannesburg developed the 2040 Growth Development Strategy (GDS), and aligned to it is the City's Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Corridors of Freedom. A key outcome of the City's 2040 GDS is to "provide a resilient, liveable, sustainable urban environment – underpinned by infrastructure supportive of a low-carbon economy". The Transport Department, in an attempt to address the challenges experienced with road infrastructure, road accidents (safety), transport and pedestrian movement, etc, further adopted a concept called "Complete Streets". The "Complete Street" approach recognises that streets are not only for vehicles, but also for public transport users, pedestrians and cyclists.
