The Biochemical Society’s Kinases andpseudokinases online symposium took placeon 26 May, with 110 participants joining fromaround the globe. The event was convened tocelebrate the 30th anniversary of the publicationof the first ever protein kinase crystal structure byProfessor Susan Taylor. Professor Taylor joinedus as a keynote speaker, along with ProfessorStefan Knapp from Frankfurt. Professor Taylorpresented a tour de force covering her career,explaining how structural and functionalanalyses of kinases, including neglected PKAisoforms within the ‘dark kinome’, are advancingknowledge of the molecular basis of signaltransduction. Professor Knapp discussed newinsights into technologies, tools and challengesin studying pseudokinase structure and function.
