The Army is once again asking Congress to cut funding for the Chinook Block Ⅱ upgrade for the active component after lawmakers restored funding for the program in the fiscal year 2020 budget. The service in its FY-21 request asks for $18.4 million for Chinook advance procurement, which includes the Block Ⅱ upgrade for the CH-47F in the conventional force, consistent with its FY-20 request, which included heavy cuts across the board to fund programs that support the National Defense Strategy. The Block Ⅱ upgrade is intended to increase the aircraft's payload by incorporating an advanced rotor blade and improved drive train, among other improvements.
