Big organisations are easy to run but difficult to change. This month, we collected the names of 20 water company CEOs (and a couple of chairpeople) who convincingly reshaped their organisations for the better during their tenure. It includes past and present leaders (Heck- mann and Gichaaga died within a week of each other last year - but in very different worlds). To qualify, they have to have been in position for at least three years. Some of them are really double acts. Neither ACWA Power's Paddy Padmanathan nor SKion Water's Reinhard Hubner would be on the list but for their business partners (Mohammed Abunayyan and Susanne Klatten, respectively). All of them are likely to credit all their employees as the true drivers of change within their organisation. It is a corporate platitude that is likely to be true for these leaders.
