Acciona pushes ahead in EPC markets with Jubail 3b win

At the end of June, the Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC), the Kingdom's central water privatisation body, signed a water purchase agreement confirming the development of the next major desalination plant in the country. The 570,000m~3/d Jubail 3b independent water project (IWP) will be developed by a team of investors comprising French project developer Engie, Saudi trading group Nesma, and domestic investment group Ajlan. With water priced at a levelised tariff of SAR1.59149 ($0.42) per cubic metre, it offers one of the lowest costs for water seen to date in an industry that has been marked by dropping prices for the past few years. It also represents one of the largest membrane desalination projects ever to be awarded in Saudi Arabia. Financial close on the project is earmarked for September.
