The Canadian legal profession is well rooted in British traditions and slow to modernize, but change can eventually take hold. Litigators, for example, are still required to wear the full black barrister robes during court trials but are no longer required to don the white rolled wigs. The legal profession's normally slow acceptance of change makes the fundamentally transformative developments in legal education and the practice of law in the past five years so unexpected.
