摘要

Last summer, I participated in a survey posted on an online discussion list for librarians titled "Job Hunting: What Search Committees Want You to Know." Subsequently, the survey authors reported that they had received more than 800 responses--a truly amazing return rate. Apparently, they had stumbled into a deep reservoir of exasperation with the myriad ways applicants sabotage themselves and make life harder for search committees. Job hunting is a formidable process in the best economic circumstances, but now it's especially important to make the best use of your time applying for library positions. I am a veteran of numerous search committees and over time have compiled my own pet bits of advice for job hunters. While my list comes from the perspective of academic law library searches, I believe the advice has application in a variety of settings.
