Space Force officials said this week the service is making progress on two efforts of significant congressional interest - designing an acquisition system that delivers capabilities faster and determining which space capabilities will transfer to the new service from the Army and Navy. The service on Thursday announced the organizational design for Space Systems Command it has been developing over the last year and officials say is on track for establishment this summer. In parallel with those organizational design efforts, the service has made progress in two areas of significant congressional interest - developing a framework for a new space acquisition system and determining what capabilities will transition from the other services into the Space Force. Both tasks target areas of concern lawmakers have highlighted in recent years in their case for creating the separate service: a slow, inefficient space acquisition system and the complicated web of organizations and services tasked with overseeing space system development.
