Spontaneous Heterotopic Cervical Pregnancy and Successful Pregnancy Outcome

Cervical ectopic pregnancy is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy, and it accounts for approximately 0.15% of allectopic pregnancies.1 Possible risk factors for cervical pregnancy are prior uterine surgery such as cesarean delivery,dilation and curettage, the use of an intrauterine device,and in vitro fertilization.2,3 Cervical pregnancy is a potentially life-threatening condition that may present withunexpected profuse bleeding secondary to erosion of cervical blood vessels.2 In the past, cervical pregnancy commonly presented with massive hemorrhage, leading tohysterectomy and even death in extreme cases.2,3 Improvements in sonographic resolution have resulted in earlierdetection of such pregnancies, enabling caregivers to offerconservative treatment. This new approach reduces morbidity and mortality rates and greatly improves fertilitypreservation.
