This work reports the effect of the Mn substitution, rapid solidificationtechnique and heat treatments on the martensitic transformation, magnetic and magnetostrictiveproperties on the Fe 70-x Pd 30 Mn x (x = 1, 3) ferromagnetic shape memory ribbons. The sampleswere investigated by X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electronmicroscopy, magnetic and magnetostrictive measurements. The thermal treatments inducesignificant changes in the microstructure and magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the martensiticphase, for Fe 67 Pd 30 Mn 3 compared to Fe 69 Pd 30 Mn 1 . The competition between the magnetizationorientation and twin boundary motion within martensitic variants under magnetic fieldevidenced in the magnetic-strain curves was discussed and correlated with the magnetic data.
