The Blueprint project, already available in six differentlanguages, was recognised as an example of an excellent advocacyand communication tool, guiding countries in understanding howto better prevent and control rabies. The impact of the project is well recognised amongstakeholders and policy-makers. The participants of the PRPmeeting agreed to undertake a complete review of its contents, incorporating additional information and guidance on theimplementation of rabies programmes, while also taking intoconsideration new scientific developments and users’ experiences,as discussed during the meeting. The OIE has already helped inreviewing and updating the Blueprint chapter on legislation. In spite of the well-identified tools and approaches tocontrol and eliminate canine rabies, it was recognised that thiscould require the engagement of new partners, such as healtheconomists and communications experts, to build a case forinvestment, so that global rabies control and national rabiespolicies could become reality.
