AN ANALYSIS OF THE NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENVIRONMENTAL CARRYING CAPACITY OF THE WESTERN TAIWAN STRAIT ECONOMIC ZONE

The Western Taiwan Strait Economic Zone has witnessed rapid economic development in recent years, and the deterioration of the ecological environment is becoming more serious every year. In this article, the authors construct evaluation models for the natural resources and environmental carrying capacity of the Western Taiwan Strait Economic Zone. The 2010 status of land resources, aquatic resources, and the atmospheric and aquatic environments were analyzed, and 2015 predictions for the resources and environmental carrying capacity of the Western Taiwan Strait Economic Zone were made. The results show that the current coastal urban land resources and aquatic resources in the Western Taiwan Strait Economic Zone can hardly meet the social and economic demand, but the atmospheric and aquatic environments generally show a good condition. On the basis of the results of this analysis, countermeasures concerning resource optimization and configuration, and ecological environmental protection, are proposed.
