An Analysis of Body Armor Sizing and the Development of an Existing Sizing System for the Indonesian National Army

A country’s national army is a state instrumentthat provides protection against threats from foreign armedforces. For this reason, army personnel must be equipped withbody armor that serves as an effective safeguard as they facesuch dangers. Facilitating the determination of appropriateuser sizes necessitates size classification, which is aimed atascertaining the standard size of a product on the basis ofdiversity in users’ body dimensions. These steps constitute asizing system. In this research, the anthropometricmeasurements of 150 personnel of the Indonesian NationalArmy are taken. A total of 15 anthropometric variables weremeasured: height, weight, waist circumference, stomachcircumference, chest circumference, front torso length, reartorso length, width between arms, front waist to rear waistspan, upper arm circumference, upper arm length, hip height,hip circumference, thigh height and thigh circumference.These data were examined using factor and correlationanalyses. The final validation yielded 19 sizes: S (XS, S, M, L),N (XS, S, M, L, XL), T (VS, S, M, L, XL) and VT (XS, S, M, L,XL).
