In the title compound, C 27 H 17 ClO, the xanthene fused-ring system adopts a shallow butterfly conformation [dihedral angle between the two halves of the ring system = 22.9?(1)°. The dihedral angle between the central heteroyclic ring and the pendant chloro-phenyl group is 87.60?(8)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by weak C—H? π inter-actions.
