The Member States of the World HealthOrganization (WHO) are committedto achieve quality, equity and dignityfor women, newborns and children asreflected in the four World Health AssemblyResolutions.1–4 These resolutionsprovide the foundation to reach thetargets for maternal, newborn and childhealth and survival5 of the sustainabledevelopment goal on health, and universalhealth coverage. Although coverageof health services has increased, manywomen, newborns and children continueto die from poor care practices,even after reaching a health facility.6,7Poor care practices are not limited tothe medical aspects of care or resourcesneeded to provide this care; researchhas demonstrated a disrespectful orneglectful treatment in the facilities thatnegatively impacts the care outcomes forwomen and newborns.8 Implementingan approach to improve quality of careat scale that is effective and sustainableis critical to further reduce mortality andimprove health outcomes.
