摘要

Sydney is the biggest city in the driest inhabited continent. It lives at the cutting edge of climate change. During the past year it has seen extreme floods put an end to a savage drought which saw temperatures in the western suburbs reach 48.9°C. Liveability is the city's key selling point and it is Sydney Water's job to deliver it. Last year the city chose French private water veteran Roch Cheroux to step into the hot seat as managing director of the publicly owned regulated utility. He is absolutely focused on that challenge. "We have got a climate that is getting very, very hot, and we have got limited resources, and most of the traditional resources like rainfall and rivers is already used, so the alternative is basically desalination or reuse," he tells GWI.
