H_2 could boost Portuguese water reuse

Government plans to turn Portugal into a major producer and exporter of green hydrogen by 2030 have raised the prospect of both a new source of demand for treated wastewater and a new source of investment in water reuse from the energy sector. The national hydrogen strategy approved in August received significant input from state water operator Aguas de Portugal (AdP), which calculates that around 1% of the 602 million m3 of wastewater treated in the country in 2018 would be sufficient to meet 2030 green hydrogen targets.
