ThetwomusclelineageblastomereswereremovedsurgicallyfromCionaintestinalisembryosattheeight-cellstageandallowedtodevelopinisolation.Acetylcholinesterase,anenzymethatoccursonlyinmusclecellsofthedevelopinglarva,wasdetectedhistochemicallyinprogenycellsoftheseisolatedblastomers.Acetylcholinesterasedifferentiationinmusclelineagecellsisnot,therefore,dependentoninductiveinteractionswithembryonictissuesderivedfromothereight-cellstageblastomeres.
